A paleontologist is a scientist who studies the fossilised remains of all kinds of organisms and is interested in knowing the history of organic life on earth. Paleontology is more than just dinosaurs!
Dinosaurs went extinct about 65 million years ago (at the end of the Cretaceous Period), after living on Earth for about 165 million years.
Sir Richard Owen (1804–1892), a Victorian scientist, established the London Natural History Museum in 1881 and invented the term "dinosaur". The word has its roots in the Greek for "terrible lizard".
The Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton named "Sue" sold for $8.3 million during a 1997 auction. "Sue" was the largest and most complete T. rex skeleton ever found.
